Synopsis

A Dangerous Affair That Leads to Tragedy
Thérèse Raquinby Émile Zola is a dark and emotional novel that explores love, guilt, and human desire. First published in the nineteenth century, the book became well known for its realistic storytelling and psychological depth. Instead of presenting romance in a beautiful or idealized way, Zola shows how passion and selfish choices can slowly destroy people from within.
The novel follows Thérèse Raquin, a young woman living a quiet and unhappy life in Paris. Forced into marriage with her weak and unhealthy cousin Camille, she feels trapped in a dull existence controlled by routine and family expectations. Everything changes when she meets Laurent, one of Camille’s close friends.
